Making a Life Change? The Environment is Your Choice!
It is early morning just before full sun up and my favourite time of day. I feel the soft sand of the beach under my feet. Even in my walking shoes the sand seems to welcome my feet and give a sponge like response as I walk. The only sounds are the early bird songs and the soft lapping noise of the waves as they reach the shore. I live in what I call the most nourishing environment for me.
Long ago I started to think about making a life change. It took me some time to determine what that change would be and although I knew I wanted to be warm and be near the ocean, I had many questions for myself to answer that could help me identify just exactly what were the other requirements that would need to be in that environment.
I had vacationed many times in the Caribbean and island living began to also be on my list as a choice I would like to make.
Questions began to pop up in my mind. What would the people be like around me? What would the smells be around me, the feelings I would want to have, such as the temperature, the wind or breeze?? What sounds would I want to hear around me?
More elements began to become apparent as I thought more about the environment in which I could be my best self. Some came quickly to mind, such as children’s voices, bird songs, gentle breeze, flower and plant fragrancies, music, rhythms, singing.
There seemed to be an overwhelming number of things to think about, including a question about distance from family.
Taking the time to identify all the elements I wanted in my new environment turned out to be the most valuable exercise. Of course I could not answer all my questions and actually needed to plan and take a leave of absence to fully, and in reality, experience living on my island.
I dreamed it, experienced it, and finally moved to live here on this island. I have never regretted my life change.
What about you? Are you thinking about making a life change? Do you know exactly what you want in a new environment, a nourishing of you environment? Is it an island, an old gracious peaceful forest setting, a busy European historical setting, a cold arctic region? a small village near farmland?
Take your time, dream it, experience it and give yourself permission to have the changed life you want.

Hi Judith – island life sounds really lovely – something a lot of us would love but never take that extra step to think about it actually being possible. You’re living the dream indeed. The fact that all your senses are nourished is an added delight.
Thank you for being here. i always look forward to your comment. And especially when you add the “delight” bpnus. Not everyone would want to move to an island. It just worked so well for me.
Hi Judith. Another well written and thought provoking article. Life is all about choices and so many people remain in unhappy situations thinking they have no choices but they do! They just need the courage to make and take them. I don’t regret my choice to be here at all.
Not everyone wants to live on an island but you certainly experienced its reality before taking the final decision. Am glad to share this place with you.
